Why bother having VHS tapes transferred to DVD? The answer is simple: VHS tapes degrade
each time you play them, more rapidly than you might think.
DVD never loses its quality and is expected to last roughly 40-50 years with proper care!
Other DVD advantages include:
- Convenient disc format is much easier to handle/store than VHS tapes.
- No moving parts or tape to get chewed up like a VHS in a hungry VCR.
- Each duplicate DVD created has the exact quality of the original. No loss of quality.
- DVD's never need to be rewound.
Recordable DVD's are known as DVD-R and can hold up to 2 hours of video.
We offer 2 types of transfers: Archival and Authored.
Archival DVD's have no menu or chapter selections. They play as a VHS tape would with the
same type of controls. This is a great option to preserve your videos to DVD without paying
extra for authoring. $20.00 each *.
An Authored DVD is just like a DVD you would rent from your local video store. It has a title
page, menu, and chapter selections so you can instantly jump to your favorite
scene instead of fast forwarding. $60.00 (extra copies $20.00 each)*.
Editing (optional) makes your home recorded videos more interesting for everyone to watch by
cutting out the bad shots, adding some titles and some music! Or just get all those tapes
compiled onto a DVD for viewing. $35.00/hr*.
Note: The quality of a DVD cannot exceed that of the original VHS master.
Check your DVD player’s manual to make sure it can play DVD-R discs.
Certain older DVD players may be incompatible with DVD-R discs.
BVP will not issue refunds due to incompatible DVD players
Never throw out your original videos! Put them away in a cool dry place.
Always handle your DVD disc with care. DVD's may have all the advantages listed above, but
they are not indestructible. In the event that your DVD disc becomes damaged (kids, pets,
carelessness), you still have the original VHS tape with your precious memories.
